AUTHENTIC AFRICAN ART & ARTIFACTS
Welcome to SusuJaama, your bridge to Authentic African Art. We believe that every item of artistic value should honor the artisan who created it, respect the culture it represents, and enhance the lives of those who see it. Our commitment to these values guides every decision we make.

Based in Chicago Illinois, SusuJaama will curate items primarily from Ghana in its initial collection and then gradually expand to other African countries and the African diaspora. Our mission is to collect, promote, sell and exchange African art with art lovers throughout the world.

About SusuJaama

Building Wealth Together
In Ghana, Susu is a word in the Akan language that means “money” or “wealth.” In Yoruba culture (Nigeria and Benin), Susu is a term for a savings system or a collective fund where individuals contribute money for a common purpose. In some African cultures, Susu is used as a personal name or a nickname, often meaning “gift from God” or “blessing.”

Ujaama is a term with roots in African languages particularly in the Swahili language spoken in East Africa. In Swahili Ujaama means “familyhood” or “brotherhood” It carries the ideas of African collectivism, emphasizing family, community, and mutual support. Overall Ujaama conveys a sense of connection, solidarity, and collective well-being.
